Bulk gold is chemically inert, but when reduced to very small nanoparticles (2-5 nm in diameter), it exhibits abundant catalytic activity. We will explore methods to create not only gold, but also platinum, silver, and other precious metals in even smaller clusters (less than 2 nm in diameter and less than 200 atoms) and catalyst materials in which a single gold atom (single atom) is the active site, thereby opening up new frontiers of materials science.<br \/>\nOxide materials are mainly used as supports for precious metals. Oxide materials are not merely the foundation of the supporting material. By modifying the oxide of the support with a function, it is possible to maximize the activity of the supported metal.
